Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all the dance styles. It originated in France and Russia then has evolved over the past few centuries. Ballet’s technical foundation has given rise to the evolution of many other dance styles we see today. The Ballet terminology comes from Franch.

Tap

Tap is a form of dance that uses metal taps on the toes and heels of shoes, making percussion sounds when hit on the ground. Tap has many styles within the tap realm including, but not limited to: rhythmic, classical, broadway.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a style that comes from the blending of several different genres which came before it. It is a blend of ballet, modern, broadway, and theatrical becoming very popular since the 1950’s.

Lyrical

Lyrical

Lyrical is a style of dance that embodies blending the styles of ballet, jazz, modern, acro styles together. Lyrical is strong in the technical foundation and utilizes technique and expression to perform and tell the story.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of dance much like lyrical with the strong technical foundation and blending of multiple genres. Contemporary has a strong emphasis on the expressive aspect of the movements. It also strives to connect the performers movements and techniques to the story dance.

Pointe

Pointe

Pointe is a form of ballet, where the dancers need to reach a particular level and skill set to graduate to dance en pointe. Pointe technique has the dancer dancing solely on the tips of their toes and working on strict ballet technique.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. This form of music has evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily break dance which was created in the 1970’s.

Acro/Tumble

Acro and tumble are styles that combine classical dance technique with acrobatic movements and skills. Great for any age and skill level.

Our turns and jumps class covers the skills needed to master various turns and jumps in multiple genres of dance. We break down the foundation of how to properly prep and go through the steps of each particular turn and jump.

Improv/Choreography

Our improv/choreography class gives students the skills to be able to create their own pieces of dance choreography. At MDA, we feel students need to be able to express their own contribution to dance through their improvisation skills.

Zumba Fitness & Zumba Gold

FITNESS | Zumba was created in the 1990’s by Columbian dancer/choreographer, Alberto, “beto” Perez. This is a form of blended dance with fitness/exercise classes now taught around the world today.
